History

The Archaeological Museum 'Villa Abbas' in Sardara tells the story of the territory with artifacts from prehistory to the Middle Ages.

The Civic Archaeological Museum 'Villa Abbas' in Sardara is located in the historic center, in Piazza Libertà.

It is housed in a building from the early 20th century (1914), previously used as a Town Hall, barracks, and elementary school, and has since been fully restored.

The exhibition, inaugurated in 1997, spans from the medieval period to the era of the Roman Empire and Republic, covering the Punic civilization and prehistoric times, including Nuragic and pre-Nuragic periods. The museum is spread across two floors, with eight rooms featuring display cases and pits.

The artifacts mainly come from the urban and rural areas of Sardara, but also from sites along the S.S. 131, from Sardara to Monastir, and from the XVIII Mountain Community.
